Originally envisioned in December 2011, the Oklahoma Collegiate Gospel Choir was conceived consisting of students from the Oklahoma City University, the University of Oklahoma, and the University of Central Oklahoma and began with a choir workshop and concert for Christmas at OCU. After the performance, it was decided the choirs would unite once again for the 2012 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration concert at the Myriad Botanical Gardens. It was during this concert that it was officially decided to establish OCGC as permanent ministry for the state of Oklahoma. Now in 2017, the choir has begun expansion, encompassing and welcoming students from all colleges, universities, and technical schools throughout the state of Oklahoma.
Our mission is to magnify God through uniting a multi-ethnic culture of worshipers, psalmist, prayer warriors, musicians and God minded students from across the state of Oklahoma while at the same time being a beacon of light on campuses and communities throughout the state. Our founder, Rev. Brian W. Fugett says, “we compete in basketball, football, baseball, track, debate teams, even choir competitions, but the one area we should not be in competition is in lifting up the name of Jesus. If we come together for nothing else, we should be able to come together as One Voice, to magnify our God. It is only through this unity that we can begin to see real change on our campuses and in our communities.”
To be a member of OCGC United you must simply be a student at one of Oklahoma’s Colleges, Universities, or Technical Schools. Singing is not a prerequisite. We believe everyone has gifts, even those that can’t sing and we will endeavor to use you where your gifts are best suited
